Biographie
Ben Kinmont (1963 à Burlington, Vermont, USA), vit et travaille à Sebastopol en Californie. Il est artiste, éditeur, également libraire spécialisé dans les livres rares. Les actions de Ben Kinmont - documentées par l’image, le texte et divers objets - impliquent des relations interindividuelles et se fondent sur ce qu’il définit comme un espace intermédiaire entre deux sujets. Un espace qui, si on le compare à la sculpture, serait en permanence façonné et modifié. Son travail porte sur le statut de l’art, sur la place de l’artiste dans la société et les échanges entre l’artiste et le public, en examinant les systèmes de valeurs liés aux pratiques artistiques et les possibilités de déplacer ces pratiques hors du champ institutionnel du musée ou des galeries, pour aller à la rencontre du public partout où il se trouve, dans la rue, à son travail, ou chez lui. Ben Kinmont est représenté par la galerie Air de Paris.
Ben Kinmont a également développé une activité de libraire spécialisée en livre ancien sur la gastronomie, un projet artistique intitulé « Sometimes a nicer sculpture is to be able to provide a living for your family ». Il est également le fondateur de Antinomian Press, une entreprise d’édition qui soutient l’art du projet et les éphémères.
